What is cyber crime?
The first recorded cyber crime took place in the year 1820.That is not surprising considering the fact that the abacus, which is thought to be the earliest form of a computer, has been around since 3500 B.C.The internet in India is growing rapidly. It has given rise to new opportunities in every field we can think of be it entertainment, business, sports or education.There’re two sides to a coin. Internet also has it’s own advantages and disadvantages.
Cyber crime means criminal activities carried out by means of computers or the Internet.Cyber crime can be committed against an individual or a group; it can also be committed against government and private organizations. It may be intended to harm someone’s reputation, physical harm, or even mental harm. Cyber criminals may use computer technology to access personal information, business trade secrets or use the internet for exploitative or malicious purposes. Criminals who perform these illegal activities are often referred to as hackers.They have everything they need on their laptops , Their weapons aren't guns anymore ; they attack with mouse cursors and passwords .
Types of cyber crime-
1)Hacking.
2)Virus Disseminition.
3)Software piracy.
4)Cyber terrorism.
5)Cyber-extortion.
1)Hacking-
It is an illegal practice by which a hacker breaches the computer’s security system of someone for personal interest.
Hacking in simple terms means an illegal intrusion into a computer system and/or network. It is also known as CRACKING. Government websites are the hot targets of the hackers due to the press coverage, it receives. Hackers enjoy the media coverage.
2)Virus Disseminition-
Malicious software that attaches itself to other software. (virus, worms, Trojan Horse, web jacking, e-mail bombing etc)
3)Software Piracy-
Software piracy is the stealing of legally protected software. Under copyright law, software piracy occurs when copyright protected software is copied, distributed, modified or sold.
Cyber-terrorism-
Normally, when someone hacks government’s security system or intimidates government or such a big organization to advance his political or social objectives by invading the security system through computer networks, it is known as cyber-terrorism.
Cyber-extortion-
When a hacker hacks someone’s email server, or computer system and demands money to reinstate the system, it is known as cyber-extortion.
What is Cyber Security?
Cyber Security is the protection of Internet connected systems, including hardware, software and data from Cyber Attacks. Information Security, which is designed to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data is subset of Cyber Security.
Preventions-
Firewall-
A Firewall is a network security device.
They establish a barrier between secured and controlled internal networks that can be trusted and untrusted outside networks like internet.
Examples :ZoneAlarm Firewall , Tinywall, Anti NetCut3 , Private Eye
Antivirus-
Antivirus software is computer program used to prevent , detect and removal of malware and computer viruses.Anti virus software started to provide protection from other computer threats.
The “Reaper” is first Anti virus software.
Examples : Quick Heal , NPAV , Avast , Avira .
